El Pinar

El Pinar: Formed by the union of the former municipalities of Pinos del Valle and Ízbor, the municipality of El Pinar extends on both slopes of the Lecrín Valley. Within its territorial boundaries are the historic Tablate Bridge and the hermitage of Santo Cristo del Zapato.

What to visit and do in El Pinar:

-Hermitage of Santo Cristo del Zapato: Built around 1925, the hermitage is located on the hill of Chinchirina. The Christ is so named because it has a painted shoe at its feet. On the third of May, a pilgrimage is made to it in which a large part of the town and the region participate. In the past, promises were common, and a large number of locals would climb barefoot.

-Bridges of Ízbor: Of the four existing bridges in the location, two are of interest: the old one, preserved as a true relic of the past, almost certainly dates from the late 16th or early 17th century; while the new one was built in 1859 as one of the elements of the old road that connected Granada with the coast.

-Hermitage of San Sebastián: Built in the Barrio Alto of Pinos del Valle in the early 19th century on an old hermitage from the 17th century. It is considered one of the most interesting examples of neoclassical architecture in the Granada province. It is a rectangular building, with three spacious naves and a transept.
